For over four decades Amie has continued to be an advocate for the advancement of women. As a founder of two chapters of the non-partisan National Women's Political Caucus years ago, she encouraged a political cross section of women to be more active in the governance of their communities. As a member of the Board of the House of Ruth Maryland, Amie has invested more than a decade helped women facing adversity. The House of Ruth Maryland provides both shelter and legal services for women and children escaping abusive relationships and also provides anger management training for male abusers.
Women serving in the military are special to Amie – she has mentored and helped numerous women in the military and as they have transitioned into their private industry careers at the end of their military service. She also helped found a group called CLONE, which gathers young women in the national security industry so that they can be mentored to network and mutually support each other. In recognition of her service in mentoring, Amie recently received the inaugural Virginia Morlock Pioneering Women in NBC (PWIN) Memorial Award, recognizing her extensive efforts in support of women.
Amie believes that, as a woman, she can bring a unique perspective to Maryland's Congressional Delegation (which now lacks any such gender diversity) and that, in so doing, she can demonstrate to the younger generation – as a living example – that women have an equal potential to participate in the political process at this level.
"For more than 20 years, from the start of my professional career to starting my own business, Amie has been a source of advice and encouragement. As long as I have known her, she has been generous with her time, resources and network in mentoring women at all stages of their career. Her willingness to make time to share her experience and knowledge has been a great help to myself and others."
"I had the pleasure of meeting Amie at a campaign event in Western Maryland. In the first 5 minutes I knew she was a unique, highly qualified candidate with a heartfelt commitment to serve the citizens of Maryland's 6th congressional district. And, her experience in national defense will be a tremendous asset to every American. We need Amie in Congress to bridge the divide and move us forward while keeping us safe in the process."
